The Valley of the Moon is one of the most surprising and beautiful natural places in the Atacama Desert. It is a true geological museum because, due to the scarce rainfall and the practically nonexistent presence of biodiversity, the geomorphology remains practically untouched, imperceptibly modified only by natural phenomena over thousands or even millions of years.

Great Dune/Salt Mine/Amphitheater/Tres Marias: Within the reserve, we will see dunes and folds in the Earth's crust. We will witness firsthand the mineral jewel of the Salt Mountain Range: rock salt, also known as mineral salt, which was extracted for decades from 15 salt mines located within the "Valley of the Moon." We will also visit Tres Marias, a natural sculpture of three salt columns carved into a small hill by the elements over thousands of years. Additionally, we will take easy hikes to viewpoints with spectacular panoramic views and explore a striking geological formation called "the amphitheater."

Kari/Coyote Stone Viewpoint: Next, we'll leave the "Valley of the Moon" Reserve so you can refresh yourselves and enjoy a snack before heading to the "Coyote Stone Viewpoint," also known as the "Kari Viewpoint," to watch the sunset. From this viewpoint, you'll have a panoramic view of the Salt Mountain Range with its incredible geomorphology and an unparalleled panoramic view of the Atacama Basin, where the wonderful oasis of San Pedro de Atacama is located.

 

Sunset: We will wait for the sunset, taking the opportunity to learn a little more, contemplate the landscape, and explore the area, awaiting the golden hour, which usually gives us wonderful sunsets in this unique and magical environment, before returning to San Pedro de Atacama and your accommodation.
